Part 05 CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS
Part 05 of the Manual of Practice addresses the development of construction documents throughout the whole process of a project or task, from inception to returning property to a vacant lot and reusing spent materials where possible. Nothing happens in document development until people get involved, because the whole purpose of construction documents is to communicate requirements.
This Part addresses how project evolve, and how people usually form into teams. These teams are expected to work together in harmony, exercise communication with each other and generally coordinate their efforts to a collective and successful conclusion. Before this chapter discusses teams, people need to be addressed.
The preparation of construction documents covered in this Part, involves the participation of many construction industry members. Regardless of the nature of any project, primary players usually are:
an owner (or developer, investor, landlord, government [public] agency or other), sometimes referred to as a "client",
a primary (design) consultant (plus all the supporting sub-consultants),
a contractor or project manager or construction manager (plus all the supporting sub-contractors, trades, vendors and others).
The construction industry, particularly in North America, has a reasonably consistent established process for developing a projects documents, reports, specifications, drawings and related documents. This Part outlines the structure and content requirements of these components.
